Queensland University of Technology

QUT is a highly successful university with a strongly applied emphasis in courses and research. Established as a university in 1989, its predecessor institutions were among Queensland 's earliest tertiary education providers. Today, with a budget of $500 million pa, the university enrols 40,000 students in academic and professionally-oriented programs across a broad range of disciplines.

Based in Brisbane, QUT has four campuses: at Gardens Point and Kelvin Grove in the CBD, and at Carseldine and Caboolture in the growth corridor north of the city. At Kelvin Grove, a modern urban village development is integrating the campus with the community. QUT's Creative Industries Precinct and the new Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation are part of the Kelvin Grove Urban Village , along with residential and retail development. Community teaching clinics and sporting facilities, and student accommodation are under construction in the village.

Courses are in high demand, and graduates have excellent job and career outcomes. QUT provides the largest number of bachelor degree graduates into full-time jobs in the nation.

Academic programs from bachelor degree to PhD are offered in: Built Environment and Engineering, Business, Creative Industries, Education, Health, Humanities and Human Services, Information Technology, Law, and Science. Twenty per cent of total enrolments are at postgraduate level, and 12 per cent of students come from overseas.

QUT is recognised nationally and internationally for the relevance of its teaching and research to industry, the professions and the broader community. Employers and professional bodies have a real influence on courses, which provide students with a unique balance of theory and practical skills. This has contributed to QUT's very substantial reputation for the quality and relevance of its courses and for the use of the innovative technology in their delivery.

Over the past decade, QUT has greatly expanded its research and international profile. It leads three national Cooperative Research Centres (in construction innovation, engineering asset management and interactive design) and is a participant in eight others. It hosts the ARC Centre of Excellence in Cultural and Media Industries.

Four multi-disciplinary institutes aim to provide high impact solutions to some of the major economic, environmental and social challenges of our time. The Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation draws researchers together to collaborate across health, science and biomedical engineering disciplines. The Information Security Institute builds solutions for government, business and the community by undertaking research in technology, legal, policy and governance issues related to information security. The Institute for Sustainable Resources develops and applies integrated solutions for the efficient and productive use of land, energy, water, infrastructure, assets and human resources in natural and built environments. The Institute for Creative Industries and Innovation is a research hub which investigates creative innovation, the innovation system and creative human capital.

QUT is a member of the Australian Technology Network of universities, along with RMIT, UTS, UniSA and Curtin.
